Exciting SOLL Middle School Championship Game!

The first ever SOLL Middle School Championship game proved to be a very exciting game.  The Wolverines squeaked by the Honey Badgers 11-10 in overtime.  With a 3 goal lead at the end of the game, the Wolverines made a last minute comeback with Malcolm Hermans scoring the tieing goal with 10 seconds left in the game.

With the score tied, it would come down to braveheart for the win.  Louis Hnatko for the Wolverines and James Holak for the Honey Badgers would face off for the deciding braveheart.  Louis won the opening faceoff, usually a deathknell for the opposing team in braveheart, but James hustled back and used a nice trail check just before Louis could get the shot off to stymie the goal scoring attempt.  James then scooped up the ensuing ground ball and darted down the rink looking to end the game.  A one on one with the goalie and the ball would go low and be slightly deflected by the goalie bouncing up and over the fence, the worst possible outcome for James.  Had the ball been deflected by the goalie or missed, James would likely have picked up the ground ball for another shot on goal since he was in the clear on the shot.  With the ball going back to the Wolverines, Louis brought the ball up the rink for the last shot.  With James playing tight defense, Louis spun and put the tough bounce shot just over the stick of goalie John Hultman for the win.  It was a very well played game by both teams and a great effort by Louis and James in the braveheart.

Louis led the Wolverines with 7 goals in the game while Dylan DeRoche added 3 goals and Malcolm Hermans added one.  League scoring leader James Holak led the Honey Badgers with 5 goals and 1 assist while Clay Simmons added 3 goals and Max Berns and Will Smyth each tallied one goal apiece.  League assists leader Berns added one assist while Smyth tallied 2 assists and Hans Larson and Jack O' Connell each pitched in with one assist.  League saves leader John Hultman had a great game with 18 saves while Dylan Cox saved 10 shots.

It was a great season of Middle School lacrosse for the middle schoolers and the quality of play and hustle in the championship game was fun to watch.  Looking forward to another season of box lacrosse this Fall for the middle schoolers.

Coaches Take Back Title

SOLL II was a battle between the coaches and Dad's team Zeek's Freeks and the North Coast Jaxx team, which coincidentally has many of the sons and who all play for the coaches.  The championship game was never really in doubt as the coaches posted a 16-14 win over NC Jaxx.  The Jaxx tightened the score a little towards the end, but the Freeks led the game the entire way.  The Freeks were led by Warren Olinger with 4 goals, Scott Wishart, Alex Rogers and Frank Rush with 3 goals apiece and Jeff Wright with 2 goals.  Andy Holak pitched in one goal in the effort.  Ian Mooers led the way for the Jaxx with 4 goals.

It was another fun season for SOLL.  Get ready for the Fall Box League!

Box Lacrosse Goes Well for Middle Schoolers

The first night of the SOLL Middle School Division games were fun to watch!  The middle schoolers played box lacrosse for the first time and picked it up well.  By the end of each game, the kids were passing more crisply and all the benefits of playing box lacrosse were becoming apparent.   All the games were close and the kids had fun.  A couple of bloody knees from gravel on the playing surface caused a little concern, but overall the games went well.

The Honey Badgers had a busy night, playing a doubleheader and defeating the Wolverines 17-16 in game one and dropping the second game to the Grizzlies 16-12.  Lots of goals scored and fun play!

Middle School Division Games Begin Thursday

Middle School Division SOLL games will begin this Thursday July 11.  Games will be played at
the large rink up at Duluth Heights (same location as High School+ games).

This summer, due to lower participation numbers than expected, we will be playing 5 v 5 box lacrosse on the large rink at Duluth Heights.  Please go to the SOLL Box Lacrosse Rules Page for more specific information about box lacrosse rules.  Most importantly, there is NO BOARDING or checking into the boards in our box lacrosse league.

To find out what team you are on, go the TEAMS page on the SOLL website and scroll to the bottom of the page.

Opening week game schedule for Thursday July 11:

5:30 p.m.  Honey Badgers vs. Wolverines
6:30 p.m.  Grizzlies vs. Honey Badgers

We tried to make the teams equal in number and get kids on teams with players they requested.  Unfortunately, to even teams out not all kids were on teams with players they specifically requested.  However, all the players are teammates on the Chargers and friends.  It should be a fun league!

Please bring a reversible pinnie to wear for opening night (we will have some extras to borrow as well).  Our 2013 SOLL pinnies should be done on Friday and will be distributed at next Thursday's games.

Full season schedule is located on the SCHEDULE page

Two Teams finish 2-0 on Opening Day

Opening day went well and most teams had enough players.  We still have room in the league for more players, so please come this Sunday and register if you'd like to play and we'll get you on a team.

The Old Guys and Dads team went 2-0 along with the NC Jaxx also going 2-0 on the day.  The Free Agents split their games 1-1 and the Grand Rapids team and Reid Erickson's team went 0-2.  Please come up with names for your teams as soon as possible.

High School Division+ games will continue with doubleheaders again next Sunday July 14.  An updated schedule will be released soon.
