High Scoring Games in Week 5

High scoring affairs highlighted week 5 of summer lacrosse.  In game 1, the more fully stocked Wolfpack Alumni team defeated Wolfpack High School 22-16.  In game 2, the Chargers Alumni beat Grand Rapids/FA 22-21 in overtime.  A scoring error just before the end of regulation stirred up some controversy, but in the end both teams scored a lot of goals.  Chargers Alumni and Grand Rapids/FA are now tied at the top of the standings at 4-1 going into the last week of play before playoffs.

Standings and Stats are now updated through week 5.  Unfortunately we're missing stats for week 1, so you may be missing some goals and assists from that week.

SOLL is back as a High School+ league!  Register your players and get your teams together now!  See all the details below:

Dates:  Thursday nights starting at 5 p.m. June 24-August 12 (tentatively).  Dates may change due to conflicts and players will be notified of the changes.  This will be every Thursday night during this period, so check your calendars and plan accordingly.

Game Times:  5, 6 and 7 p.m. - depending on number of teams

Location:  Chester Park Field (Field 9) on the UMD Campus.  Park in Lot R-3 off Woodland Avenue (see attached parking map).
31 W Clover St, Duluth, MN 55812 - https://goo.gl/maps/6EfaZkjJAzWhYkfg9

Ages:  9th grade and up.  This will be a high schoolleague with some alumni and older players participating.

Teams:  Players will form their own teams and we will add additional "free agents" to some teams to try to even out competition.  Teams can be a mix of current high school players and alumni.  We're hoping to have a couple of Duluth teams, an alumni team and teams from Hermantown/Proctor, Grand Rapids and Superior/Cloquet/Carlton/Esko.  Rosters should be at least 10 players and larger rosters would be better as players often miss some games during the summer.

Cost:  $65.  Player fee will cover league expenses (field rental, balls, equipment, insurance, permits, referees, field marking, etc.)

Uniforms:  Players will provide their own reversible pinnies (dark and light).  We all have quite a few reversible pinnies already, so we won't be adding another at this time.  Teams may also create their own uniforms with their team name if they like. Team names will be made up by each team.  Please keep it appropriate.

Format:  7v7 field lacrosse.  This format utilizes 2 attack, 2 midfielders, 2 defenseman and 1 goalie.  Field size is smaller.  See all the rules on our website - https://solllax.blogspot.com/p/rules.html  PLEASE READ RULES PAGE CAREFULLY!

Registration:  Please start registering NOW!  Go to https://forms.gle/khXrpS8JBpbQEY9J8 to register.  Your registration will be complete once your player fee is paid.  If the link to player fee payment isn't working on your registration form, please go here https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=3HPM5Q29N2APJ to pay your player fee.  Please register by JUNE 16 so we can have teams and schedules ready to go.  You may register after this time, but we'd really like to get our teams put together as soon as possible.  Also, we NEED goalies, so please encourage any goalies you know to play this summer and we will get them on a team.  Goalies will play for FREE.

I also want to give you a heads up that schedules and final team formation will likely be very last minute.  Our experience is that people fail to register in a timely manner which leaves us scrambling to make sure teams are formed, delaying game schedules.    Please register as soon as possible if you plan to play this summer.  We operate on faith that teams will come together, but this does delay things.  Schedules and teams will be formed, please be patient.  Also, keep this email as it contains all of the information you'll need to register and pay your player fee as well as schedule and location information.  Thanks!

Exciting SOLL Middle School Championship Game!

The first ever SOLL Middle School Championship game proved to be a very exciting game.  The Wolverines squeaked by the Honey Badgers 11-10 in overtime.  With a 3 goal lead at the end of the game, the Wolverines made a last minute comeback with Malcolm Hermans scoring the tieing goal with 10 seconds left in the game.

With the score tied, it would come down to braveheart for the win.  Louis Hnatko for the Wolverines and James Holak for the Honey Badgers would face off for the deciding braveheart.  Louis won the opening faceoff, usually a deathknell for the opposing team in braveheart, but James hustled back and used a nice trail check just before Louis could get the shot off to stymie the goal scoring attempt.  James then scooped up the ensuing ground ball and darted down the rink looking to end the game.  A one on one with the goalie and the ball would go low and be slightly deflected by the goalie bouncing up and over the fence, the worst possible outcome for James.  Had the ball been deflected by the goalie or missed, James would likely have picked up the ground ball for another shot on goal since he was in the clear on the shot.  With the ball going back to the Wolverines, Louis brought the ball up the rink for the last shot.  With James playing tight defense, Louis spun and put the tough bounce shot just over the stick of goalie John Hultman for the win.  It was a very well played game by both teams and a great effort by Louis and James in the braveheart.

Louis led the Wolverines with 7 goals in the game while Dylan DeRoche added 3 goals and Malcolm Hermans added one.  League scoring leader James Holak led the Honey Badgers with 5 goals and 1 assist while Clay Simmons added 3 goals and Max Berns and Will Smyth each tallied one goal apiece.  League assists leader Berns added one assist while Smyth tallied 2 assists and Hans Larson and Jack O' Connell each pitched in with one assist.  League saves leader John Hultman had a great game with 18 saves while Dylan Cox saved 10 shots.

It was a great season of Middle School lacrosse for the middle schoolers and the quality of play and hustle in the championship game was fun to watch.  Looking forward to another season of box lacrosse this Fall for the middle schoolers.

Coaches Take Back Title

SOLL II was a battle between the coaches and Dad's team Zeek's Freeks and the North Coast Jaxx team, which coincidentally has many of the sons and who all play for the coaches.  The championship game was never really in doubt as the coaches posted a 16-14 win over NC Jaxx.  The Jaxx tightened the score a little towards the end, but the Freeks led the game the entire way.  The Freeks were led by Warren Olinger with 4 goals, Scott Wishart, Alex Rogers and Frank Rush with 3 goals apiece and Jeff Wright with 2 goals.  Andy Holak pitched in one goal in the effort.  Ian Mooers led the way for the Jaxx with 4 goals.

It was another fun season for SOLL.  Get ready for the Fall Box League!
